VoIP

Calls over the Internet mean more choice, lower prices

A broadcast tower stands solemnly in the distance, fields of hay wave in the foreground.

Overview

VoIP, short for Voice over Internet Protocol, is a relatively new technology that allows users to make telephone calls via their internet connection. Many think that VoIP technology is revolutionizing the way that telephone service is provided. As we have seen with new technologies in video service, the benefits of VoIP include lower prices, a broader range of services and more choice for consumers.

The Mid-American Communications Alliance believes that VoIP technology provides a beneficial option for consumers. During the 2007 Missouri legislative session, MCA representatives testified before committees in both the House and Senate in support of light government regulation with respect to VoIP.
In the future, MCA will continue to monitor the status of VoIP regulation in our region in order to ensure that consumers have the most options for their communications needs.
